Speaking at the event, the Head Teacher, Dr. Stephen Anayọchukwu Nwala, described the anniversary as a defining moment in the school’s history. He recalled that the academy was founded ten years ago with a clear mission to provide quality and inclusive education, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, while nurturing talent and character.
According to him, the early years of the school were marked by significant challenges, including limited resources, financial constraints, and skepticism from some quarters. However, he said the institution survived and grew through resilience, passion, and a firm belief in its vision.
“Ten years ago, we set out to build a school that would be a beacon of hope, where every child could thrive regardless of background. Today, we are proud of what we have achieved, despite the many obstacles we encountered in the early days,” Dr. Nwala said.
He noted that over the years, Koncepts International Academy has recorded remarkable academic outcomes and has helped nurture students who are excelling not only academically but also in other life pursuits. He added that the school takes pride in seeing its alumni pursue and actualise their dreams in different fields.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Head Teacher announced the opening of a new school facility, describing it as a major step toward expanding the institution’s reach and deepening its impact. He said the new facility would create additional opportunities for students to learn, grow, and excel in a more conducive environment.
Dr. Nwala paid glowing tribute to the school’s teachers, describing the academy as a training ground that has engaged over 60 teachers in the last decade. He explained that these included National Youth Service Corps members, teaching practice students, and full time teaching staff.
He noted that while many of the teachers have since moved on to other professions or schools, they left behind a strong legacy of professionalism and dedication. He also acknowledged a foundation staff member who has remained with the school since its inception in 2016, describing the individual as a symbol of commitment and continuity.
“Our parents and guardians can testify that we have always engaged the best hands available, ensuring that their children received quality instruction and real value,” he said.
The Head Teacher also reflected on the school’s relationship with parents and guardians, noting that the institution has worked with families from diverse social and educational backgrounds. He explained that while some families eventually left due to economic challenges such as rising transportation costs and fuel price increases, many continued to support the school’s mission even after their children had exited.
“Some parents may have left physically, but they remain part of our school community by choice, continuing to support our vision in different ways,” he added.
A significant part of the celebration was devoted to appreciating supporters and benefactors who have contributed to the growth of the school over the years. Dr. Nwala highlighted the contributions of several individuals both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.
Among those acknowledged was Mr. David Anani, based in the United Kingdom, who facilitated a partnership with the Nigeria Catholic Community of Our Lady of Angels in March 2025. Through this collaboration, four pupils of the school received tuition scholarships spanning three to six years, valued at £880, equivalent to about ₦1.8 million.
Chief and Pastor Olu Philip Okenwa, based in Belgium, was also commended for donating a high performance laptop to support the school’s computer studies programme and for contributing 20 bags of cement toward the construction of the Eziome school structure. Similarly, Chief Mba Idika Akpaetu from Southern Australia was acknowledged for donating building materials and expressing interest in further collaboration.
Other benefactors recognised included Barrister Anselm Kelechukwu Madu of Owerri, who supported the school with building materials; Barrister Jamike S. Nwosu, described as a long standing and dependable supporter; and Professor Mike Obioha Okoro of Imo State University, the school’s first and longest serving PTA Chairman.
Dr. Nwala also appreciated Dr. Chinyere Ihisota of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, who brought the 2024 International Day of the Boy Child celebration to the school and supported its development project financially. Hon. Kelechi Nwachukwu, based in Germany, was praised for providing relief materials and opening a revolving support facility for the institution.
Other supporters acknowledged included Mr. Emeka Okereke, Barrister Darlington Asilonu, Dr. Uzor Ngoladi of the Forum of Southeast Academic Doctors, as well as the school’s landlady and matron, Mrs. Clara Asilonu, and several long term suppliers.
Addressing the students, Dr. Nwala said they remain the core reason for the school’s existence, urging them to continue striving for excellence and to value the relationships they form in life.
Looking ahead, he reaffirmed the school’s commitment to its founding mission of delivering quality education to children who need it most. He pledged that Koncepts International Academy would continue to prioritise excellence, innovation, and inclusivity, while strengthening partnerships that enhance educational access and outcomes.
The anniversary celebration concluded with expressions of gratitude and a call for continued collaboration, as members of the Koncept International Academy community celebrated what was described as ten years of impactful relationships, resilience, and educational service.
