Several people were injured in a shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, on Sunday.

The Grand Blanc Township Police Department confirmed multiple victims and announced that the shooter is down, assuring the public there is no ongoing threat. However, the church itself was reported to be on fire.

“There are multiple victims and the shooter is down. There is NO threat to the public at this time. The church is actively on fire,” the Grand Blanc PD said, urging people to avoid the area.

Videos circulating on social media showed flames and smoke pouring from the church roof as emergency vehicles flooded the scene.

According to NBC News, between six and eight people were injured in the attack.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi condemned the assault, calling it a “horrific shooting and fire.”

“Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling. Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy,” Bondi said.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed federal agents were on site, stating, “Violence in a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act. Our prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible tragedy.”

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also issued a statement expressing grief for the community.

“Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable. I am grateful to the first responders who took action quickly,” Whitmer said.
