Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, made a surprise appearance at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday to join a burgeoning protest.

The demonstration was sparked by the Senate’s controversial decision to reject the mandatory electronic transmission of election results, a move that has drawn widespread criticism from various political quarters.

In an unusual move for a high-profile political figure, Amaechi did not arrive alone. He was accompanied by his eldest son, a medical professional, whom he introduced as a strategic addition to the protest lineup.

The former governor emphasized that his son’s presence was a practical measure to ensure the safety of those exercising their democratic rights.

Addressing the crowd and observers, Amaechi stated, “I brought my first son to join the protest. He is a medical doctor, his job is if there’s injury to treat the injured ones.”
