Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, has officially resigned his membership from the African Democratic Congress on May 4, 2026, citing unresolved legal battles and internal leadership crises rocking the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of the ADC in Ward 09, Alaba Oro, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, the grassroots politician announced his immediate withdrawal from the party.

The letter, dated May 4, 2026, was also copied to the Local Government Chairman and the Lagos State leadership of the party.

According to Hon. Chima, the lingering legal disputes at the national level of the ADC have created uncertainty and weakened confidence among party faithful and supporters. He stated that the internal crisis has made it difficult for committed members to effectively mobilize and operate within the party structure.

He noted that every serious politician requires a stable and conducive political platform to serve the people effectively and maintain the confidence of the electorate. However, he explained that the atmosphere within the ADC in Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA no longer provides such an environment.

The resignation comes amid a series of reported leadership disputes and legal controversies within the ADC nationwide. Recent reports indicated disagreements over party leadership, recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and court cases surrounding the party’s national structure.

The ADC has in recent weeks been involved in public disagreements over its leadership transition and legal tussles with INEC concerning the recognition of party executives.

Hon. Chima, who thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and contribute during his time as a member, also appreciated the relationships and experiences he gained while in the ADC.

He further assured supporters that his next political move would be communicated to the public at the appropriate time.

Political observers in Ajeromi Ifelodun believe the resignation of OmoBarca may generate fresh conversations within the local political landscape, especially ahead of the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

The development adds to the growing list of politicians distancing themselves from the ADC amid the party’s ongoing internal challenges.
