The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State Command has arrested two suspects for child-trafficking and abduction in Aba town in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASC Doreen Udugwu, in a statement on Saturday, December 28, 2024, said that a three-year old girl, Chiamaka Ahamefula, was rescued from the suspects identified as Uche Royal and Chidera Donatus.
According to Udugwu, the suspects were arrested on December 26, following credible intelligence.
“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old man, Mr Uche Royal, a native of Ohaji in Owerri West LGA, Imo State and a 20-year-old girl, Miss Chidera Donatus, a native of Nenwe in Ogwu LGA, Enugu State in connection with child trafficking and abduction in Aba, Abia State,” the statement read.
“The arrest which took place on December 26 2024, was made following credible intelligence provided to the command, by a volunteer.
“During the operation, a girl child identified as Miss Chiamaka Ahamefula (3) from Ukpaka Ukwu in Umuahia, Abia State was rescued.
“Investigations revealed that Miss Chidera was introduced to Mr Uche by Mr Danji, who resides in Aba but now at large.
“Preliminary investigations further revealed that Mr Uche Royal, Miss Chidera Donatus and Mr Danji has been in this illicit business for some time.”
Speaking on the arrest, the State Commandant, Akinsola Aderemi reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to smoke out criminal minded individuals in the State.
He further reiterated that diligent investigation would be made in this case of Mr Uche and Miss Chidera, as he remains resolute in bringing in their accomplices and the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to Justice and ensure the Corps put an end to such practices.
Furthermore, the Commandant said that upon the conclusion of this investigation, the case will be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which is statutorily empowered to prosecute these offenses.
“I am calling on parents to take responsibility for the proper upbringing of their children,” the Commandant said.
He equally charged the members of the public to be vigilant and provide us with credible intelligence of any suspicious activity within their environment.
