The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman has lambasted a women’s advocacy group, Women Forum for Unity and Development of Kaduna Central for accusing him of being silent on the Senate’s floor and unable to attract any meaningful development to the area since his election in 2023.

The women’s group had, in a statement in Kaduna, alleged that Senator Usman had “performed woefully” in the past two years of his election to represent Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly and had failed to attract development to the area as well as deliver on his campaign promises.

But in a swift response, Senator Usman, in a statement by his Media and Publicity Office, deplored the women’s group’s statement as “malicious” and “outright lies,” saying, he had brought unprecedented developments to the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the past two years, a feat which his two predecessors could not achieve in all the years they spent in representing the district in the National Assembly.

Senator Usman accused the women’s group of deliberately peddling malicious lies about him, noting that his legislative duties targeted at delivering the real dividends of democracy to his constituency and the country, are engaging enough for him than “to dissipate energy and waste precious time on needless arguments with jobless hirelings.”

“We know the masterminds of this mischievous women’s group. We know those behind them. It’s the voice of their masters. It’s the hands of Esau but the voice of Jacob. We know it’s their usual antics, we’re not surprised,” the lawmaker said.

Therefore, highlighting his achievements in his two years as the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Usman listed the construction of 100 smart primary school buildings fully equipped with modern learning facilities, provision of hundreds of millions of Naira worth of scholarships, over N500million to empower youths and women across his constituency, provision of over 200 electricity transformers to light up homes across the seven local government areas, boreholes for potable water, solar lights, entrepreneurial training and provision of over 30,000 tons of fertilizers for farmers, sponsorship of hundreds of students for WAEC and UTME (JAMB) examinations, N500,000 business startup capital for each of 500 beneficiaries, payment of registration fees for over 1000 tertiary institution students, training for over 100 women in soap making, training for over 200 beneficiaries in fish farming as well as other skills acquisition training for over 1000 other beneficiaries as some of democracy dividends he had already delivered to his constituents.

He added that he had also disbursed the sum of between N100,000 and N150,000 bursary allowances to over 200 students in the Humanities and Sciences, respectively, across his Senatorial District, from the N500 million set aside for settling tuition fees for hundreds of students of tertiary institutions in his constituency. He said over 1000 students drawn from across the Senatorial District have so far been awarded scholarships.

To facilitate the easy transportation of persons, goods and farm produce throughout Kaduna Central Senatorial District, the lawmaker said finishing touches are currently being put to his plan to construct over 20,000 kilometres of roads traversing the seven local government areas in the district.

Senator LA also disclosed that he had sponsored four very crucial motions and four bills, which are now in their third reading stages and about to be passed into law by the Senate.

He added that he had also continued to sponsor people to perform the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia to offer prayers for the peace, progress, and unity of Nigeria.

“My pledge is to continue to work assiduously to make life better for all the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District and practically alleviate the suffering of

the less privileged, too,” he added.

Senator Usman noted that contrary to the claims by the women’s group, the several achievements and developmental feats he had recorded in the past two years in the National Assembly, had brought great relief to his constituents in Kaduna Central Senatorial District, who had earlier been unlucky to have been saddled with the “misfits” who represented them in the National Assembly before his election in 2023.

He stressed that the evidence of his achievements abounds in “various undisputable concrete forms” as represented by his unprecedented constituency projects and empowerment programmes.

The statement added, “At the risk of sounding immodest, the Kaduna Central Senatorial District for which the two immediate past Senators have no record of achievements they can flaunt, is the same constituency where the people have continued to hail and acknowledge the unprecedented achievements already recorded by the incumbent Senator LA in just two years in the Senate. Parents, students and other constituents in Kaduna Central Senatorial District have continued to shower encomium on their amiable lawmaker, with many beneficiaries of Senator LA’s various constituency projects and programmes sharing testimonies about how his supports have positively impacted their lives in different ramifications.”

It further stated that for political opponents masquerading under the aiegis of the women advocacy group to “falsely accuse Senator LA of non-performance, is, to say the least, futile, unconscionable and a failed attempt to cover up their sponsors’ gross inadequacies and monumental failure in serving the people, when they were given the mandate in the recent past,” adding, “Just like the other belligerent faceless groups, the women’s group, alongside their masterminds, we believe, is suffering from a collective amnesia and intoxicated by the crumbs of the filthy lucre they’re being fed by their sponsors.”

The lawmaker however assured his constituents that he will continue to use their mandate in the 10th National Assembly to implement beneficial programmes and projects for the common good of all the people in the seven local government areas constituting the senatorial district and beyond.

Senator Usman also assured that he’ll not relent in his efforts to increase the access of all the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District to the basic necessities of life and the real dividends of democracy.

Senator Usman, who also doubles as the Senate Committee Chairman on Education (Basic and Secondary) and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Financial Matters and is popularly called Senator LA by his teeming supporters, however, charged his constituents to continue to support him in his efforts to better their lot and take Kaduna Central to greater heights through the delivery of the real dividends of democracy.

He assured them that he’ll continue to prioritize their welfare and well-being and will not relent in his efforts and noble endeavours to continue to bring unprecedented socio-economic and infrastructural developments to all facets of their lives and throughout Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
