The Grand Finale of the Southeast Maths Olympiad Competition took place yesterday, with the results announced on the same day.
Finalists from Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi states converged in Enugu state for the final of the Southeast Maths Olympiad, with N10 million up for grabs across all categories.
The grand finale broadcast live on AFIA TV went smoothly for hours as it progressed through the Primary, Secondary, and Senior categories.
A few hours after the competition, the results were in. The Southeast Maths Olympiad has produced three winners from each of the three categories. A competition featuring 11,522 students was narrowed to three winners across three categories.

The Southeast Maths Olympiad produced three winners across the primary, junior and senior categories. They are.
Primary Category (Primary 1 to 6 )
Winner: Egejurum Onyedikachi
State : Imo State
School: Diamond Special College, Owerri, Imo State.
Prize: N2 million
Runners Up: Anambra and Enugu State
Junior Category (Jss1 to Jss3 )
Winner: Onwubiko Chimdiebube
State: Enugu State
School: Evergreen Schools, Enugu State
Prize: N3 million and N1 million for his teacher
Senior Category ( SS1 to SS3 )
Winner: Don-Anele Marvellous Munachimso
State : Imo State
School: Diamond Special College, Owerri, Imo state
Prize : N5 million and N1 million for teacher
Imo state won the primary and Senior categories of the competition, with students of Diamond Special College, Owerri, Imo state, doing the state proud.
Enugu State won the Junior category, clinching the first, second, and third positions. The winner and the runners-up of this category are all from Evergreen Schools, Enugu, and their teacher, Master Chsiom Unachukwu, was duly recognised.
Imo, Enugu and Anambra states were ranked first, second and Third in the overall competition, with Ebonyi and Abia states having room to do better.
Alex Onyia, the convener of the event, challenged the winners to go forth and test their mettle at global competitions.
” I would love to challenge South East Maths winners with a global challenge where top students from China, Korea, Singapore, Finland, Germany and the USA compete intensely with them. I want to see them excel on the world stage. We are building the greatest workforce in Africa.” Onyia said.
