The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced an investigation into alleged recruitment irregularities at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),  over transparency in employment and staff regularisation processes within the federal government-owned media organisation.

Documents obtained by SaharaReporters indicate that the anti-corruption agency has formally requested a range of employment and recruitment records from NAN as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged violations of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The letter, signed by the Director of Operations on behalf of the Chairman of the ICPC, urged the management of NAN to cooperate fully with investigators and ensure that the requested documents are made available.

In a letter dated July 6, 2026, and addressed to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NAN, the ICPC directed the agency to produce relevant documents and nominate a competent officer to appear before investigators at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The letter stated that the request was made pursuant to Section 38 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, which empowers the Commission to obtain documents and information necessary for investigations.

As part of the probe, the ICPC requested all records relating to NAN’s recruitment and staff regularisation exercises conducted between 2024 and 2026.

The documents sought by investigators include recruitment advertisements, eligibility and selection criteria, lists of shortlisted applicants, names of successful candidates, and minutes of meetings held by committees involved in the recruitment process.

The Commission also specifically demanded the personnel file of one Ogunola Folashade Adunni, along with any additional information that could assist investigators in determining whether due process was followed during the recruitment exercise.

The letter read, “This Commission is investigating an alleged violation of corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and it has become necessary to obtain certain documents/information from your office.

“In view thereof and pursuant to Section 38 of the above Act, you are kindly requested to release and direct a competent officer to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s Headquarters, Abuja on Friday 10th July 2025 at 10:00am.

“The officer is to come along with the following; All documents in relation to recruitment/regularization for the years 2024-2026, which should include advertisement, criteria, shortlisted candidates, list of successful candidates, and committee minutes of meeting.

“Personnel file of Ogunola Folashade Adunni. Any other information that may assist this investigation.

“Accept the assurances of the Honourable Chairman’s highest regards, please.”
