Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has warned those allegedly plotting to rig the 2027 governorship election to “write their will” before attempting to subvert the people’s will.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Umuahia, Otti said he received reports that some political actors were planning to “take over the state” through unlawful means.
“If they must write result, they should write something else before that time “their will”. Because this is our state; nobody can intimidate us,” he warned.
The governor cautioned politicians against premature campaigns, saying it violates electoral laws.
He urged aspirants to wait for INEC’s timetable before starting campaigns. “If you start campaigning before then, you put yourself in harm’s way — you can even be disqualified,” he noted.
Otti added that any political gathering or public declaration before INEC’s timetable amounts to early campaigning.
“When you gather people and say you’ll take over the state in 2027, you’re campaigning. It is not right,” he said.
Elected under the Labour Party in 2023, Otti affirmed that Abia people will freely choose their next governor.
“Once INEC blows the whistle, anyone can run; it’s for Abia people to decide who will be their governor,” he concluded.
