US offers $5,000 reward for Nigerian woman, Emuobosan Emmanuella over romance scam

The United States Government has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a 46-year-old Nigerian woman, Emuobosan Emmanuella Hall, who allegedly failed to report to a federal prison to begin serving an eight-year sentence for her involvement in a romance fraud scheme.

The US Attorney’s Office announced the reward in a statement on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, disclosing that a federal grand jury indicted Hall on October 23 for failing to surrender to the Federal Bureau of Prisons as directed by a court.

Hall, a Nigerian citizen and permanent resident of the United States, was sentenced to 96 months in prison in January 2026 by US District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo for her role in a conspiracy involving romance fraud and money laundering.

According to the statement, the court permitted her to remain on bond but ordered her to report to a designated federal correctional facility by March 25, 2026, to begin serving her sentence. She failed to comply with the order.

Investigators said data from Hall’s electronic monitoring device showed that her last known location was Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on March 24, 2026, a day before she was due to report to prison. The monitoring device reportedly stopped transmitting at the airport.

Hall had informed her probation officer that she would travel to Minnesota, where she had been designated to serve her sentence. However, airline records indicated that she did not board the flight.

The case originated in April 2024, when a federal grand jury in New Orleans indicted Hall on charges of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. She was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, released on bond and subsequently pleaded guilty.

Court documents and evidence presented during the trial of her co-defendant, Kenneth G. Akpieyi, revealed that the conspiracy targeted mostly older women through fraudulent romantic relationships initiated on social media platforms.

Members of the syndicate allegedly posed as generals, philanthropists and entrepreneurs living outside the United States. They contacted victims through platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, gained their confidence and persuaded them to move conversations to WhatsApp or other encrypted messaging applications.

After establishing romantic relationships with the victims, the fraudsters allegedly requested money under various pretences, including financial assistance for charitable activities and support for sick relatives.

According to court records, Hall and Akpieyi, who is from Marietta, Georgia, established a company, Le Beau Monde LLC, which they used to facilitate the scheme.

Hall reportedly deposited money obtained from victims into bank accounts held in the company’s name before transferring the funds to accounts in other financial institutions, including foreign banks.

Hall admitted responsibility for losses amounting to $851,207 suffered by victims of the fraud scheme. Akpieyi, however, was found responsible for losses exceeding $3.5 million.

Akpieyi was convicted following a four-day jury trial in July 2025 and subsequently sentenced by Judge Milazzo to 25 years in federal prison. He was remanded in custody after the trial and is currently serving his sentence.

Commenting on Hall’s failure to report to prison, United States Attorney David I. Courcelle said she had defrauded vulnerable elderly citizens of their retirement savings.

“Hall was convicted for defrauding our vulnerable, elderly citizens out of their retirement funds. Her flight from the law demonstrates her utter disregard of our judicial system. We will continue to pursue Hall and any person who may be facilitating her failure to appear to serve her federal prison sentence,” Courcelle stated.

The new indictment over her failure to report to prison carries additional potential penalties. If convicted, Hall faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, to be served consecutively to her existing sentence. She could also be fined up to $250,000 and subjected to supervised release for up to three years, in addition to a mandatory $100 assessment.

The case has been assigned to US District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown under Criminal Action No. 26-255 “G”.

The US Attorney’s Office urged anyone with information about Hall’s whereabouts to contact the FBI through its toll-free number, 1-800-CALL-FBI, or submit information online at https://tips.fbi.gov.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to her arrest.

Courcelle also commended the FBI New Orleans Field Office for its investigation of the case.
