Some leaders of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met with former President Goodluck Jonathan at his office in Maitama, Abuja.
The meeting comes nearly a month after the faction announced the ratification of Jonathan, in absentia, as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Although the group endorsed him, Jonathan has yet to publicly confirm or reject the nomination.
In May, the former president said he would consult widely before deciding whether to contest the 2027 presidential election after a group of supporters stormed his Abuja office to urge him to declare his ambition.
As of the time of filing this report, details of Thursday’s meeting had not been made public, and Jonathan has not addressed the press.
The visit was, however, shared by the faction on its X handle with the caption: “Fair winds have never made a skilled sailor. Victory ahead, by God’s grace.”
Jonathan had earlier reaffirmed his status as a card-carrying member of the PDP and pledged to play a more active role in the party’s discussions and preparations for upcoming off-season elections.
The Turaki-led faction has also continued to call for reconciliation within the PDP amid its lingering leadership crisis, particularly over disagreements with the leadership of the party backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
