Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala says President Bola Tinubu and U.S. President Donald Trump are expected to meet in the coming days either at Nigeria’s State House or the White House
The meeting is expected to discuss rising tensions after Trump placed Nigeria on a U.S. State Department watch list for alleged violations of religious freedom and reportedly asked the Pentagon to consider possible Military action against armed groups in the country.
Nigeria has rejected the claim as a Mischaracterisation of its religious reality.
In a post on his official X handle, Bwala, who serves as Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, said both leaders share a commitment to fighting terrorism.
He noted that Trump had previously supported Nigeria by authorising the sale of arms for counter-insurgency operations, while President Tinubu has, in his words, “adequately utilised” those resources with “massive results.”
Bwala adds that any differences over whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or people of all faiths would be discussed and resolved when both presidents meet.
