The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this during the commissioning of the remodelled Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal at the airport on Wednesday, July 29.

Keyamo said the approval was granted by President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen airport infrastructure and enhance the aviation sector.

According to him, the runway project will improve operational efficiency and position the Kano airport to compete with other international airports.

“The President has approved the sum of ₦46 billion for the resurfacing and reconstruction of the second runway so that the Kano Airport can compete with other international airports around the world,” the minister said.

He described Kano as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria, noting that the state occupies a strategic position in the country’s economy and aviation industry.

The minister also announced that work has commenced on the upgrade of the airport’s Hajj Terminal, with contractors already on site.

He explained that the remodelling of the Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal forms part of the Federal Government’s broader aviation modernisation programme aimed at improving passenger comfort, operational efficiency, safety and service delivery across airports nationwide.

Keyamo added that the remodelled terminal was named after Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo in recognition of his contributions to the development of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
