Suspended for honouring an invitation: The chiefs, the ruling class, and the politics of hypocrisy

He that comes to equity must come with clean hands…

On this note, I set forth my observation regarding the unpalatable news of the recent suspension of the 6 chiefs by the apex ruling class of the domain.

One of the fundamental right of every human and Nigerian as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution section 40 of the 1999 constitution which states: Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association

However it is sad to note that, this isn’t the fate of the following respected personality.

Chief Akeem Oseni Bale Amukoko
Chief Abdulateef Ojora Bale Alaba
Chief Jide Ojora Bale Alafia
Bale Taiwo Okere
Bale Balogun Abukekere
Bale Idris Ojora

Like every other Nigerian and citizen, these above personalities attended a political rally on invitation and in honor of one of their subjects as royal fathers of the day.

However, they woke up to the news of their suspension from their superior with reasons that attended a political gathering which according to the communique stated that they weren’t allowed to do so and other untenable reasons to justify their suspension.

These respected chiefs accepted their fate and suspension in good fate..

Fast forward to July 8th 2025, another political rally was organized by another party, this time the apc and in attendance were 3 distinguished and highly respected kings of the Land,
The Onilado of Ilado Kingdom Oba Mobadenle Oyekan,
Oba Musiliu Adio of Onisiwo kingdom, Oba Onilashe of Ilashe Kingdom
fully seated and recognized in this political gathering..

12 hours later, no news of suspension or query has been seen or heard.
Which birth the question; are our traditional rulers now partisan?
Has partisan politics now infiltrated our traditional class?
Is the royal stool now in bed with a particular party and association with any other party outside of the apc now an anathema?

Is the royal stool not suppose to be neutral and accommodating to all parties since all candidates irrespective of the party affiliation are by nature their children?
Are they trying to pitch one of their children against others?

These are thought provoking question every right thinking Nigerian should ponder on.

The traditional ruling class by virtue of their foundational conduct ought to be a unifier, accommodating, fostering peace and harmony across parties, tribes and status of their immediate domain.

It is sad to say that the conduct of the apex ruling class on this matter has not shown unity but chaos, they want to sow seed of discord instead of peace shown, they have not done justices but blatant hypocrisy which is against every moral code and it stands condemnable.

We therefore appeal to our royal fathers to have a rethink and see that these anomaly is corrected and possibly the 6 suspended chiefs be restored and their suspension cancelled.

Nigeria of our dream is achievable.
