Senator Okey Ezea, who represents Enugu North Senatorial District, in the National Assembly has passed away.
The Labour Party lawmaker, popularly known as Ideke, was said to have died on Tuesday while receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
A source close to his family, disclosed that he had earlier undergone treatment in Germany before his condition worsened.
News of his death first surfaced on social media after a prominent constituent, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi — widely known online as “Senator” — announced the development on Facebook, writing:
“Sad News. Senator Okey Ezea Representing Enugu North Is Dead… Rest in Peace.”
Multiple sources from the senatorial zone have also confirmed the report, with allies and political associates said to be grieving deeply.
Ezea was the sole remaining Labour Party member in the National Assembly from Enugu State following the defection of other lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While full details surrounding his death remain unclear, the news has sparked widespread reactions across social media.
Ezea had previously contested governorship of the Enugu State under Labour Party, and former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
