Arise TV morning show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has declared that no one in Nigeria not even the Inspector-General of Police has the courage to reduce the heavy security entourage attached to Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The comment came Wednesday morning during a heated discussion on the programme about Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s recent public criticism of the “battalion” of armed security personnel that accompanies the president’s son.
Soyinka had, on Tuesday, December 9, recounted a personal encounter where a major road was completely shut down to allow Seyi Tinubu’s convoy pass, leaving him and other road users stranded.
The literary icon described the display as excessive and unacceptable.Reacting to Soyinka’s remarks, Rufai Oseni argued that despite the criticism, the security arrangement around Seyi Tinubu is untouchable.
“Them nor born anybody to remove the police protection of Seyi Tinubu,” Oseni said emphatically in Pidgin English.
When co-anchor Reuben Abati pressed him, asking, “Not even the Inspector-General of Police?”Oseni doubled down: “Them nor born am well! Them nor born am well! You think I’m joking? You go see.”
The exchange has sparked fresh debate on social media about the use of state security resources for presidential family members and the limits of institutional independence under the current administration.
