President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to Nigerian music legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Friday, President Tinubu hailed 2Baba as one of Nigeria’s most enduring cultural ambassadors whose creativity, resilience, and unique artistry have significantly contributed to the growth of the nation’s entertainment industry and the promotion of Nigeria’s image globally.
The President praised the Afrobeat star for his consistency and impact spanning more than two decades, noting that his timeless hit songs have not only entertained audiences but also inspired millions across generations.
“For more than 20 years, 2Baba serenaded us with soulful melodies, inspired generations, and carried the Nigerian flag with pride worldwide,” President Tinubu said. “His legendary song, African Queen, remains an evergreen classic that introduced the beauty of African music to the world, placing Nigeria at the heart of the global entertainment map.”
Beyond his music, President Tinubu commended Idibia’s commitment to peace, unity, and good governance, highlighting how the artist has used his platform to promote patriotism and civic engagement among Nigerian youths.
“2Baba’s patriotism and deployment of his platform for the promotion of peace, unity, and good governance in Nigeria are worthy of commendation,” the President noted.
The statement also conveyed President Tinubu’s prayers for the singer, wishing him continued success, good health, and fulfilment in the years ahead. “I pray that the years ahead will bring the music virtuoso greater joy, fulfilment, and good health,” the President said.
2Baba, who rose to fame as a member of the iconic group Plantashun Boiz before launching a stellar solo career, is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential music figures. His career has been decorated with numerous awards and honors, including MTV Africa Music Awards, Headies Awards, BET Awards, and international recognitions that have cemented his status as a pioneer of Afrobeats and African contemporary music.
His 2004 breakout hit, African Queen, not only introduced Idibia to international audiences but also became a defining anthem of African love songs, enjoying enduring popularity across continents. Over the years, 2Baba has released several successful albums, earning respect as an artist who blends entertainment with social consciousness.
Beyond music, 2Baba is also recognized for his philanthropic and social initiatives, particularly through the Innocent Idibia Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment, education, and advocacy for peaceful elections in Nigeria. His involvement in civic campaigns has made him a respected voice among Nigerian youth, often bridging the gap between entertainment and social responsibility.
As congratulatory messages continue to pour in from fans, colleagues, and political leaders, President Tinubu’s tribute stands out as recognition of 2Baba’s role in shaping modern Nigerian music and his efforts in nation-building.
With his 50th birthday milestone, 2Baba remains not only a cultural icon but also a symbol of Nigeria’s creative excellence and global influence.
