The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, on Thursday visited the College of Medical and Nursing Sciences at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, where he commended the institution for its remarkable growth and renewed commitment to academic excellence.
Obi, a strong advocate for educational reform and investment in human capital, expressed delight at the transformation the university has achieved since his last visit. He attributed the progress to visionary leadership, consistency, and a focused drive toward institutional development.

During the visit, the former Anambra State governor announced a personal donation of ₦15 million to support the university’s ongoing infrastructural projects. He described the gesture as part of his long-standing commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education and healthcare systems — sectors he considers the bedrock of any productive and progressive nation.
Addressing the students of the College of Medical and Nursing Sciences, Obi reminded them that their education places them at the centre of global relevance. He emphasised that the young scholars are not just students, but future leaders and global citizens who will shape the direction of Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
“You will represent Nigeria on the world stage,” Obi told the students. “We must therefore ensure that you have the tools, environment, and moral grounding needed to excel.”
He reiterated the need for greater national investment in education, stressing that no country can achieve sustainable development without prioritising learning, research, and innovation.
As he concluded his visit, Obi reaffirmed his optimism for the country, insisting that with the right values and leadership, “a new Nigeria is possible.”
