Oyo govt declares 16-hour curfew in 10 LGAs

Oyo State Government has approved the imposition of a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas in the state, following a directive issued by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.

According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Tuesday, the curfew will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The restriction will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., and is expected to remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours.

The measure affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.

The affected local government areas are Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Igboho), Irepo (Kisi), Saki West (Saki), Saki East (Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Otu), Iseyin (Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Igbeti), and Atiba (Offa-Meta, Oyo).

The government did not immediately state the reason for the curfew in the memo.
