In a follow-up message, he added, “Prayers up to the EKUBO family.”

A source familiar with the development also confirmed the actor’s death, revealing that Ekubo had reportedly been battling cancer for some time before his passing in Lagos.

The actor’s death has sent shockwaves across Nollywood and among his millions of fans within and outside Nigeria, many of whom had become increasingly concerned over his prolonged absence from public life.

For several months, Ekubo had remained largely out of the spotlight, sparking widespread speculation regarding his health and whereabouts. Fans had repeatedly taken to social media platforms to ask questions about his sudden disappearance from movies, red carpet appearances, interviews and online engagements.

His last known social media activity was reportedly sometime in 2024, after which he became completely inactive online, further intensifying rumours about his condition.

Despite growing public curiosity, neither the actor nor his close associates had publicly disclosed details about any illness before reports of his death emerged.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Alex Ekubo built a successful career in Nollywood and became one of the most admired actors in the industry due to his charisma, versatility and captivating screen presence.

He gained prominence through appearances in several blockbuster films and television productions, earning a reputation for effortlessly interpreting romantic, comic and dramatic roles.

Over the years, Ekubo established himself as one of Nollywood’s leading actors, starring alongside some of the industry’s biggest names and contributing significantly to the global growth of African cinema.

Known for his striking looks, fashion sense and humorous personality, the actor also built a strong fan base on social media, where he frequently entertained followers with witty posts, lifestyle content and behind-the-scenes moments from movie sets.

Beyond acting, Ekubo was admired by many colleagues for his professionalism, humility and positive energy within the entertainment industry.

Following news of his reported death, emotional tributes poured in across social media platforms from fellow actors, filmmakers, celebrities and fans mourning the loss of one of Nollywood’s most recognisable stars.

Several colleagues described him as a cheerful and compassionate individual who brought joy to those around him both on and off screen.

Fans also recalled his contributions to Nigerian cinema, noting that his performances helped shape a new generation of Nollywood storytelling and entertainment.

Many expressed sadness that the actor died at a relatively young age after quietly battling a serious illness away from public attention.

The development has left many supporters heartbroken, especially those who had hoped the actor would eventually make a return to the screen after his lengthy absence from the entertainment scene.

Some fans noted that his disappearance from movies and public appearances had generated concern for months, although few anticipated that he was reportedly battling a life-threatening illness.

Ekubo’s death represents another painful loss for Nollywood, which has in recent years witnessed the deaths of several prominent actors and filmmakers.

Industry observers say his passing will leave a major vacuum within the entertainment sector, particularly given his popularity among younger audiences and his influence within contemporary Nollywood productions.

As tributes continue to pour in, many Nigerians have also used the moment to call attention to the importance of cancer awareness, regular health checks and support for individuals battling critical illnesses.

As of the time of filing this report, the family of the late actor had yet to issue an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding his death or details of burial arrangements.

There has also been no formal confirmation from his management team beyond the announcements made by close associates online.

Meanwhile, fans, colleagues and admirers across the country continue to express grief over the reported passing of the actor, remembering him for the memorable roles he played and the impact he made on the Nigerian film industry.

For many, Alex Ekubo will be remembered not only as a talented actor but also as a vibrant personality whose presence helped define a significant era in modern Nollywood.
