The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye has raised alarm over what she described as drug insecurity in Nigeria. She stated this while speaking to channels television about the dreaded corona virus. She said that over 70 percent of Active Pharmaceutical Products (API) used in drug manufacturing in Nigeria is imported from China and India.

“The only thing Pharmaceutical companies don’t import is water. Nigeria has failed to translate research to product. There is acute drug shortage in Nigeria. If this corona virus persists, Nigeria is in trouble because there will be monumental increase in the price of drugs. The government should fund universities and research institutes and invest in science. That is the only way out. If China is sick, then Nigeria is dead.” She lamented.
