The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 66 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, cleverly packaged as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.

The seizure, weighing 62.20kg, was made on Thursday, June 5, 2025, based on credible intelligence received weeks ahead of the consignment’s arrival.

The shipment, which originated from Thailand via the United Arab Emirates on an Emirates Airlines flight, had been watch-listed by NDLEA operatives and placed under sustained surveillance for over three weeks.

The operation culminated in a joint examination involving other stakeholders at the airport.

In a related operation in Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 1,665kg consignment of skunk cannabis along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway on Monday, June 2.

Two suspects, Gidado Abdulrasaq Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

Elsewhere in Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Tuesday, June 3.

The suspect was caught with 612 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 2,970 pills of flunitrazepam. On the same day, a 52-year-old wanted drug dealer identified as Kabiru Musa, also known as KB, was arrested at Kurmin Mashi. Investigators had previously recovered 25.7kg of skunk cannabis from his base.

In Edo State, operatives recovered 9kg of Loud from the spare tyre compartment of an Audi station wagon, marked AAA 975 XU, driven by 45-year-old Atari Israel along Auchi Road.

Also in Benin City, two young women, Favour Joy and Joy Igwe, were apprehended on Tuesday, June 3, at the Ikpoba Hill area. Seized from them were 106.57kg of skunk, 1kg of Loud, 800 grams of Colorado, and 302 grams of methamphetamine.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed these developments in a statement on Sunday, reiterated the agency’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
