The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has intercepted and recovered 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed inside a cement-laden trailer along the Kano–Zaria Road.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, said the consignment was seized on February 2, 2026, by officers attached to the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance and careful monitoring.

“The trailer, loaded with Dangote Cement, departed Obajana in Kogi State and was en route to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was stopped along the Zaria–Kano Road.

“The driver has been arrested and is currently in NDLEA custody pending further investigation”, the statement partly read.

Commenting on the seizure, the NDLEA state commander, D.Y. Lawal, said the operation was the result of meticulous intelligence work and the dedication of officers.

According to him, the drugs were concealed within legitimate cargo and were believed to have been intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period.

“We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual well-being of our communities,” he said.

In line with directives from the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, the NDLEA Kano Command said it would intensify patrols, reinforce checkpoints and sustain intelligence-driven operations across the state.

The command added that the investigation into the network behind the shipment was ongoing, with efforts being made to identify and apprehend all collaborators and facilitators. It said those found culpable would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The agency called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or information about drug trafficking to the nearest NDLEA office or through official channels.

“Continued community cooperation is essential to protect citizens and preserve the peace and sanctity of communal and religious observances,” the statement added.
