The Labour Party has denied claims that it has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Sokoto State Chairman and Chairman of the Northern Labour Party Chairmen Forum, Abubakar Yawale, described the claim as false and misleading.

Yawale said the statement was allegedly made by Abayomi Arabambi, whom he said had been expelled from the party and lacked the authority to speak on its behalf.

“The Labour Party has not taken any decision to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition. Such a claim is false, unfounded, and should be completely disregarded,” the statement read.

The party also said its leadership remained intact, noting that only recognised organs were empowered to take official decisions.

On former presidential candidate Peter Obi, the party said he remained free to pursue his political ambitions on any platform of his choice.

It added that it had competent aspirants who could contest future elections under its platform.

The party urged the public to disregard the claim, describing it as baseless.

The Labour Party has faced internal disagreements in recent months, with rival factions making conflicting claims about its leadership and positions.

The party gained prominence during the 2023 general elections following the presidential bid of Obi.
