The Safer Society for Children Foundation has joined forces with the Elegant Nurses Forum to demand justice for a female student reportedly gang-raped by four suspects in Ijebu Ode.

The group, in a petition dated March 22 and made available to journalists on Sunday, was signed by Kunle Sodipo.

It is alleged that the police failed to provide adequate protection to the victim, instead exposing her to further harm and humiliation.

The petition stated: “The officers at Igbeba Police Station have breached confidentiality, disclosed the victim’s address, and allowed the suspects’ parents to intimidate and bribe the family into silence.

“This is not just a case of rape; it’s a case of institutional betrayal. The police, who are meant to protect and serve, have become enablers of injustice. If this can happen to one of our own, it can happen to anyone. It is someone else’s daughter today, God forbid, it may be another person’s daughter tomorrow.”

The foundation demanded the immediate investigation and prosecution of the four alleged rapists—Kalu Prosper, Oche Destiny, Adamu Paul, and Adewusi Qudus.

It also called for the investigation and prosecution of any allegedly corrupt police personnel at Igbeba Police Divisional Headquarters, Ijebu-Ode, and all other culpable elements involved.

The group further requested due protection for the victim and her family from further harassment, as well as transparency and regular updates on the case’s progress.

It urged Nigerians to support the campaign for justice for the young woman, saying no to rape and corruption in the administration of justice.

Reacting to the allegations, spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the four suspects—Kalu Prosper, Oche Destiny, Adamu Paul, and Adewusi Qudus—have been arrested and charged to court.

He added, “At no point was the victim compromised. The Command ensured that all necessary requirements for a thorough investigation, including medical examinations, evidence collection, and proper documentation, were strictly adhered to.

“While the petitioners described the situation as the police having ‘failed to protect the victim, instead exposing her to further harm and humiliation,’ the Command maintains that officers acted professionally, prioritising the victim’s safety, dignity, and rights throughout the investigation.”

Babaseyi explained that Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has instituted an investigation into the claims raised in the petition and that the Command remains open to verifiable facts, pledging to act decisively if any breach of duty is established.

He urged the public to provide credible information to assist the investigation. He confirmed that updates on the case will be provided, underscoring the Command’s commitment to justice, victim protection, and maintaining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
