That leaves Gov Sim Fubara of Rivers state as the only PDP Governor in the South South geopolitical zone but 20 of the 23 LGA chairmen in the state are APC.
Along with South East which also has only one PDP Governor, used to be PDP’s strongest hold before the party started seeing demons.
Three other Governor from other geopolitical zones are also perfecting their exit from the party that once controlled 23 of the nation’s 36 states.
Diri’s impending exit will leave them with 9 Governors. Obasanjo, the first man to become president on the platform of the party once tore the party’s membership card as he left the party but did not formally join any other party.
Atiku, his vice president has left the party on several occasions as his desperation and personal ambition dictates. But unlike his boss, he doesn’t leave without joining another party to continue in his desperation to become president.
He joined ACN the first time he left PDP; joined APC the second time he left and now, he is poised for ADC, the new platform for his failed presidential ambition.
David Mark was the longest serving Senate President the party produced, serving two terms under two presidents: Yar’adua and Jonathan.
He has abandoned the party for ADC. Dimeji Bankole was a vibrant Speaker of House of Representatives under the party. He left the party a long time ago.
It’s a long list but the recent and ongoing defections of the party’s governors to APC is the worst that has happened to the party since it was birthed in 1998.
In 2027, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be re-elected as we await two PDP governors from the north to also join the APC soon and one the only surviving PDP Governor in South East.
