The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has recalled an entire patrol team and ordered an immediate investigation into a recent media report alleging bribery by some of the patrol operatives of the Corps.
The Corps Marshal issued the directive in response to a media report alleging corrupt practices by some corps operatives.
This comes two weeks after the House of Representatives set up an ad hoc committee to investigate operational issues related to driverโs licence issuance, revenue generation, and usage within the last three years.
According to the statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Thursday, he stated that the corps is committed to upholding discipline and has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and misconduct.
He noted that if the operatives in question are found guilty, they could face dismissal and criminal prosecution.
He said that, if found guilty, the operatives will face โsevere disciplinary action, including dismissal and prosecution where necessary.โ
Ogungbemide explained that the Corpsโ management has always taken a proactive approach to combating corruption, never tolerating corrupt elements within the system.
He said: โOver the years, the leadership of the Corps consistently demonstrated zero tolerance to corruption through a detailed anti-corruption policy and implementation process, dynamic and result oriented operational activities, and continuous monitoring and evaluation of established.
โTo this end, any operative arrested for any criminal offence, including extortion, shall not only be tried internally, disengaged, but handed over to the Police for prosecution where necessary.
โThis demonstration of zero tolerance to bribery and corruption led to the continual reorganization of the internal surveillance system to enable it cope with the guidelines of the Corpsโ maintenance of discipline which is highly instrumental to the termination of the appointment of many of the Operatives of the Corps found guilty of bribery and corruption, while others face prosecution in the law court.โ
