A Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Iheamama, to 12 years imprisonment for trafficking two minors for sexual exploitation.
The victims, identified as Bright Edim and Mary Ekong, both aged 15, were reportedly being transported by Iheamama to Badagry for onward movement to Ghana, where they were to be forced into prostitution, according to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Iheamama was prosecuted on a three-count charge bordering on child trafficking and exploitation.
Delivering judgment, Hon. Justice A. A. Okeke of the Federal High Court found the defendant guilty on all counts and sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of ₦250,000 fine on count one, five years imprisonment with ₦500,000 fine on count two, and another five years imprisonment on count three.
The court ruled that the sentences would run concurrently.
Speaking on the judgment, NAPTIP Ogun State Commander, Bose Jimoh, disclosed that Iheamama was initially arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force on April 12, 2025, in Agbara, Ogun State, before the matter was transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation and prosecution.
She said the suspect was arraigned before the court on June 18, 2025, while trial commenced on October 15, 2025.
Judgment in the matter was eventually delivered on May 20, 2026.
NAPTIP said the convict was prosecuted under Sections 13, 15(b), and 26(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
