A fire incident occurred on Wednesday at the Senate wing of the National Assembly complex in Abuja, triggering concern among lawmakers, legislative staff, and visitors within the premises.

The outbreak, which reportedly started in one of the offices within the Senate section of the complex, prompted an immediate emergency response as security personnel and relevant authorities moved swiftly to contain the situation and prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.

Videos circulating on social media, including footage aired by Africa Independent Television (AIT), showed thick smoke billowing from a room in the affected area. The footage also captured senators, staff members, and other personnel gathered around the scene as emergency responders worked to bring the fire under control.

The incident caused temporary anxiety within the National Assembly complex, with workers and lawmakers closely monitoring developments while safety measures were activated. Security officials were seen restricting access to parts of the affected area as emergency teams carried out containment operations.

Although the exact cause of the fire had not been officially established at the time of reporting, authorities were said to be assessing the situation to determine the source of the outbreak and the extent of the damage.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries resulting from the incident. However, officials were conducting inspections to ensure that all occupants of the affected section were safely evacuated and that no one was trapped inside the building.

The National Assembly complex, which houses both the Senate and the House of Representatives, is one of Nigeria’s most important government facilities. As a result, the incident attracted significant attention from lawmakers and members of the public.

Witnesses at the scene said the swift intervention of emergency responders helped prevent the fire from escalating into a major disaster. Personnel from relevant fire and safety agencies reportedly arrived promptly and commenced efforts to extinguish the flames.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to provide further details regarding the cause of the fire, the level of damage sustained, and any measures that may be required to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of maintaining strict fire safety standards in public institutions, particularly critical government facilities where large numbers of people work daily.

More details are expected to emerge as officials complete their assessment of the situation and release an official report on the incident.
