An early morning explosion on Tuesday rattled the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, sparking panic among residents and hospital staff.

The blast, which reportedly hit part of the hospital’s staff quarters, was confirmed by the Kebbi State Police Command.

The spokesperson for the Command, SP Bashir Usman, said security operatives moved in swiftly and that no casualty was recorded.

In a statement obtained by SaharaReporters, Usman said the area had been secured to prevent further threats while a joint team of police, military personnel and vigilante operatives cordoned off the scene.

“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” he said.

Usman added that specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit had been deployed to assess the blast site as part of ongoing investigation.

“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” he noted.

The Police said the state Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical deployments to maintain order and restore confidence within the community.

A full-scale investigation has also been opened to determine the source of the explosion, with authorities warning residents to stay away from the immediate vicinity of the hospital to avoid obstructing security operations.
