UYO — The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Labour Party has rolled out drums of celebration for its House of Representatives candidate for Uyo/Ibesikpo Asutan/Nsit Atai/Uruan Federal Constituency, Mr. Ikakke Bassey, as he marks another year.

In a goodwill message released to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ime Silas, the party described Mr. Bassey as a beacon of hope and a true servant of the people whose years of public engagement have earned him respect across the four local government areas that make up the federal constituency.

According to the party, Mr. Bassey’s political journey has been defined less by noise and more by consistent, grassroots work. The statement noted that long before the current election cycle, he had built a reputation for selfless service, integrity, and what the party called “an unwavering dedication to the welfare of constituents.”

With preparations for the next general elections gathering momentum, the Labour Party said Mr. Bassey continues to reflect the core values the party is campaigning on across Nigeria.

“Today, we celebrate not just the birth of Mr. Ikakke Bassey, but the vision, courage and resilience he brings to the political space in our dear state,” the statement read in part.

The leadership stressed that his style of politics — centered on direct engagement — is what the constituency needs at this time.

The message continues: “His commitment to listening to the people of Uyo, Ibesikpo Asutan, Nsit Atai and Uruan, and his resolve to offer quality representation, gives us great confidence that the Labour Party is presenting the right candidate for this critical constituency.”

Comrade Silas further highlighted Mr. Bassey’s accessibility, noting that the candidate has maintained open channels with youths, women, and traditional institutions, while also pushing conversations around unemployment, insecurity, and the decay of infrastructure that residents complain about daily.

“We acknowledge Mr. Bassey’s sacrifices over the years in the pursuit of a better society. At a time when Nigerians are yearning for credible alternatives, his emergence on the platform of the Labour Party represents a fresh breath of honest leadership,” Silas maintained.

The State Publicity Secretary used the occasion to offer prayers for the celebrator and to rally party members ahead of 2027. He urged supporters across Uyo, Ibesikpo Asutan, Nsit Atai and Uruan to see the birthday as a moment to renew their mobilization efforts.

“As you celebrate this new age, we pray that the Almighty will continue to strengthen you, grant you wisdom, and order your steps in the journey ahead. The Labour Party family in Akwa Ibom stands firmly behind you,” the message added.

Beyond the official statement, party members, stakeholders and supporters have also taken to social media and community gatherings in the four LGAs to celebrate Mr. Bassey. Many described him as a leader with empathy and a clear development agenda for the federal constituency.

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to fielding credible candidates and building a political culture driven by accountability, calling on eligible voters in the constituency to back Mr. Bassey’s candidacy as part of what it termed the broader movement towards rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria.
