Assumption of duty of the 56th Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID Annex Lagos

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, today, 30th March 2026, received the newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom psc fdc mspsp MNIM, who has assumed duty as the 56th Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCID Annex, Lagos.

AIG Akpanudom takes over from the current Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM, who served as the 55th Assistant Inspector General of Police, FCID Annex, before his appointment to the exalted office of the IGP by the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, and confirmed by the Nigerian Police Council, as the 23rd Indegenous Inspector-General of Police, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

AIG Akpanudom is a seasoned and highly accomplished police officer. He was born on 4th August 1967 in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 18th May 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has since distinguished himself through dedication, professionalism, and exemplary service.

Prior to his elevation, he served as Commissioner of Police, Anti-Fraud Section, FCID Annex, Lagos, where he effectively deployed his wealth of experience in various investigative units of the Force to combat financial crimes and strengthen investigative capabilities of the personnel.

He holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar, an Advanced Certificate in Industrial Safety and Control from the University of Port Harcourt, and an M.Sc in Security and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He has also attended several prestigious local and international professional courses, including the Strategic Leadership Command Course and the Higher Defence Management Course at the National Defence College, Abuja.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has held numerous tactical, operational, investigative, administrative and strategic positions across various commands and formations, including participation in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, where he earned international recognition.

His distinguished service has attracted several honours and commendations, including the Inspector-General of Police Commendation (Sword of Honour) as Best All-Round Cadet ASP Course 17/1992, the United Nations Medal (UNMIK), and awards as Best Graduating Course Participant in key tactical and leadership command courses.

AIG Akpanudom is a Fellow of the Defence College and member of notable professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Graduate, Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He is a Jerusalem Pilgrim (JP).

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID Annex Lagos assures the general public of the Department’s unwavering commitment to thorough and professional investigation of all cases, efficient service delivery, and robust collaboration and partnership with sister agencies, Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and members of the public, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

He emphasizes that FCID Annex Lagos will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and transparency, and unwavering respect for human rights in the discharge of its duties, to build public trust in line with the IGP’s mantra of people-oriented policing. The people as the bosses.

To drive the IGP’s mantra, detectives will be trained in line with world class training standards, and in the use of technology to improve their digital investigation skills and enhance service delivery.

The AIG further calls on the general public to remain law-abiding and to continue to support and cooperate with the Police by providing timely and credible information, as collective efforts remain central in the fight against crimes in their evolving natures and sophistication, to enhance national security and economic development.
