The General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the marriage of his adopted son, Elijah Chibuzor, has been nullified by government authorities.
In a statement issued to address the speculation, the cleric described the reports as false, misleading and the handiwork of what he termed “enemies of progress.”
According to him, his adopted son and his wife were recently at an immigration office solely for the purpose of processing their international passports ahead of a planned trip to Canada.
Apostle Chinyere explained that the couple’s appearance at the passport office had been deliberately misinterpreted by rumour mongers who used the opportunity to spread unfounded claims about trouble in their marriage.
“My son Elijah Chibuzor and his wife, Mrs Elijah, were at the immigration and passport office for the acquisition of their international passports,” he said.
The cleric stated that arrangements had already been concluded for the couple to travel to Canada for a holiday, adding that some beneficiaries of the OPM University Scholarship currently residing in Canada had been informed to receive them at the airport and assist them throughout their stay.
He clarified that the trip is being fully funded by Omega Power Ministry through contributions from church members.
“I have already informed my children I sent to Canada on OPM University Scholarship to receive them at the airport and take care of them during their stay in Canada,” he stated.
According to the OPM founder, the funding for the trip is coming from tithes and offerings donated by members of the church, stressing that the initiative forms part of the ministry’s humanitarian and family support programmes.
Apostle Chinyere therefore urged the public to disregard reports alleging that the government had nullified or invalidated the marriage of the couple.
“Please ignore any fake news of government nullification of their marriage. Their marriage is intact,” he declared.
He further described the rumour as “a fragment of imagination” created by individuals who are uncomfortable with the progress and happiness of others.
The Port Harcourt-based preacher has over the years gained public attention for his charitable activities, including scholarships, free schools, free healthcare services and welfare interventions targeted at vulnerable Nigerians.
The marriage involving Elijah Chibuzor had earlier generated significant public interest after Apostle Chinyere publicly supported the union and announced welfare packages for the bride.
Reaffirming his commitment to the couple, the cleric disclosed that Elijah’s wife remains on a lifetime salary arrangement sponsored by the ministry.
According to him, her primary responsibility is to care for Elijah, make him happy and build a stable family with him.
“She is on a lifetime salary and her only job is to take care of my son Elijah, make him happy and give birth to beautiful healthy children,” he said.
Apostle Chinyere also revealed that additional financial benefits had been earmarked for the woman in the future, noting that she would receive another ₦20 million cash reward if Elijah remains alive in the next ten years.
He explained that the promised financial package is separate from the monthly salary she currently receives.
“And if Elijah is alive in 10 years’ time, she will receive another ₦20 million cash, which is different from her monthly salary every month,” he added.
The cleric maintained that his actions were inspired by his belief in compassion, love and the importance of supporting vulnerable individuals in society.
According to him, every human being created by God deserves happiness and dignity irrespective of their circumstances.
“Every human being created by God deserves to be happy,” he stated.
Apostle Chinyere concluded his remarks with a message encouraging people to make positive impacts in the lives of others, insisting that acts of kindness bring joy to God.
“God is happy when you make others happy,” he said.
The statement has since attracted reactions on social media, with supporters praising the cleric for standing by his adopted son and dismissing what they described as malicious rumours targeted at the family.
Others commended the humanitarian initiatives of the church, especially its scholarship scheme and welfare support for vulnerable individuals.
Despite the controversy generated online, Apostle Chinyere insisted that there is no crisis in the marriage and urged members of the public not to give attention to misinformation circulating on various social media platforms.
