APC candidate wins Bwari Area Council chairmanship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Returning Officer for the election, Mohammed Nurudeen, announced the results on Sunday in Bwari.

He said Ishaku secured a total of 18,466 votes to emerge victorious in the poll held on Saturday.

“I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council, Bwari chairmanship election held on Feb. 21, 2026. That Joshua Ishaku, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Mr Nurudeen said while declaring the results as reported by NAN.

According to him, the African Democratic Congress candidate polled 4,254 votes to place second, while the Zenith Labour Party candidate garnered 3,515 votes to finish third.

The chairmanship election was conducted across the 10 wards of Bwari Area Council, namely Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central and Kawu.

It will be recalled that Julius Adamu, the former Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, withdrew from the race and endorsed Ishaku ahead of the election.
