Achi and his wife, Sarah Achi, were kidnapped from their home in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025.

The abduction was first reported on October 29, after the bandits sent proof-of-life photographs to the family, demanding a ₦600 million ransom.

The images showed the couple in distress, alongside other captives who appeared malnourished and chained.

A source confirmed on Wednesday night that Venerable Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, had died while being held by the kidnappers.

There was no immediate update on the condition of his wife. This incident comes amid rising insecurity in Kaduna State.

The bandits also killed two police officers in Southern Kaduna after attacking the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, headquarters of Zangon Kataf LGA, during a night raid.
