Naira is doing well despite COVID-19 – Garba Shehu

Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu has said that the Naira which appreciated at the importer & exporter (I&E) window by 0.1 percent to N411/$1 but depreciated by 0.4 percent to N495/$1 in the parallel market, is in the best possible health it could be in.

The Presidential spokesperson who said this on a Channels Television programme when presented with statistics on how the economy fared in 2015 compared with 2021, maintained that only the Nigerian economy is recording “positive growth” in Africa amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shehu further stated that whoever questions the capacity of the present government to manage the economy, needs to have themselves re-examined.

He said;

“If you ask me this question, I will tell you that whoever questions the capacity of the government to manage the economy probably also need to have themselves re-examined.

“Because look at all of the things that have happened with COVID over the last year or more.

“Naira is in the best possible health it can be, given the circumstances we are in.

“Can you see that in the entire Africa continent, this is the only country that is recording positive growth in its economy?”
