A 40-year-old businessman identified as Ogbeni Goggo has reportedly died by suicide in Delta State after a business venture he allegedly financed with a ₦1.8 million loan failed.
The incident has left his wife, relatives and friends devastated, while also drawing attention to the intense financial and emotional pressures confronting individuals struggling with debt and failed investments.
Goggo, who had been married for about three years without children, reportedly sent disturbing messages to some of his friends and family members on Wednesday, August 26, expressing frustration with his circumstances and indicating that he was contemplating ending his life.
Concern reportedly grew after he failed to return home that night. His wife, who became increasingly worried about his whereabouts, contacted relatives and friends as attempts were made to reach him on his telephone.
Despite the efforts to locate him, there was no immediate information about his whereabouts.
The search reportedly continued into Thursday, with family members and others making efforts to establish contact with him and determine where he had gone.
By Friday morning, the situation had become sufficiently alarming for his wife to report him missing at the Ebrumede Police Station in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
At the police station, officers reportedly showed her a photograph of an unidentified deceased man who had been found around the Ebrumede Flyover/DSC Roundabout area.
She reportedly identified the deceased as her husband, bringing a tragic end to the search for him.
According to reports surrounding the incident, Goggo was seen by some individuals in the area after allegedly ingesting a toxic substance. Witnesses reportedly raised an alarm and attempted to obtain assistance, but he had already collapsed and was in serious distress.
The police were subsequently alerted to the incident.
His remains were later evacuated and deposited at a morgue in Agbaro, Delta State, according to reports.
