The first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Adamu Atiku, who served as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, has resigned from Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri’s cabinet.

In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Abdulaziz Jauro, the former commissioner commended the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of the state.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamawa State, Alhaji Adamu Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned from his position after serving two successful terms in office.

“In his resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and signed by him, he expressed his profound gratitude to His Excellency, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, for the rare privilege and confidence bestowed upon him to serve in such a strategic capacity,” the statement read.

Adamu, who described the opportunity given to him to serve as commissioner as an honour of immense significance, pledged continued loyalty and support to the present administration’s developmental vision.

The former commissioner also thanked his father for granting him the moral support and blessing to serve the people of the state.

“He commended the Permanent Secretaries of Works and Energy, the directors, engineers, and the entire staff of the ministry for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to infrastructural advancement across the state.”

“Special appreciation was conveyed to the great people of Jada, his community, for their steadfast prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout his tenure,” the statement added.

He emphasised that his resignation does not mark the end of his commitment to public service, but rather the beginning of new avenues for developmental collaboration.

Adamu reaffirmed his readiness to continue contributing meaningfully to the growth, unity, and progress of Adamawa State.

He was on Thursday absent at Adamawa Government House where Fintiri defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Adamu is nursing a governorship ambition, though he is yet to declare the party platform on which he intends to contest.

However, sources close to his father, Atiku Abubakar, told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that his father has endorsed Adamu for a senatorial contest.

Meanwhile, Abba Atiku will be contesting for a House of Representatives seat on the platform of the APC.
