Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the once-vibrant opposition party has become a “carcass” overtaken by anti-democratic elements.

In his resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Thievhe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu lamented what he described as the hijacking of the party by forces within and outside its ranks, in what he termed “broad daylight.”

Momodu, who joined the PDP in 2021 and contested for the party’s presidential ticket in the 2023 elections, expressed deep disappointment over the party’s current trajectory, accusing its leadership of betraying the hope of Nigerians seeking credible political alternatives.

He stated that his reason for leaving was simple and straightforward.

According to him, it is honourable to abandon the “carcass” of the party to those who hijacked it, while the majority of sincere members join the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The statement read, “I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect. My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.

“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us carnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times,” he added.
