#EndSARS: Speaker Gbajabiamila orders police to block protesters from National Assembly (videos)

The #EndSARS memorial protest that took place in FCT Abuja was going without hitches until a combination of the police, military, FRSC, Civil Defence and VIO barricaded the road infront of the Federal High Court to prevent protesters from approaching the National Assemby.

All attempts by the protesters led by activist Omoyele Sowore proved abortive as the police insisted that protesters must turn back to the Unity Fountain where they initially ssembled.

Addressing Sowore and other arrow heads of the protest, DCP Ben Igwe said the order to stop protesters who wanted to be addressed by the prinicipal officers of the National Assembly was issued by the Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Igwe who came with over 200 policemen also put a call across to the Speaker to re-confirm that no protester is allowed into the National Assembly.

The protesters were forced to march back through Maitama and back to the Unity Fountain with heavy police presence.

Sowore described the order from Gbajabiamila as an affront to democracy and called on Nigerians to rise up and challenge every form of oppression from the ruling class.
