The Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Liberation Movement, IAFCLM, has congratulated Engr. Ubong Idemudo, the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency, over his inclusion in the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections published by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The group, in a congratulatory message jointly signed by its President, Mr. Sunday Ibikpa and Secretary, Ubokobong Ekanem, said Idemudo’s clearance by the electoral umpire marks a major milestone in the struggle to liberate the federal constituency from poor representation.
According to the Movement, the confirmation of the NDC candidate on the INEC list has rekindled hope among constituents who desire purposeful representation in the House of Representatives.
The group said it received the news with excitement and renewed optimism.
In the statement, the Movement said “On behalf of the entire members and leadership of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Liberation Movement, we heartily congratulate Engr. Ubong Idemudo on his successful listing as the authentic candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the INEC final list,”.
Describing Idemudo as a credible alternative, the group noted that his background in engineering, entrepreneurship and community service distinguishes him.
“Engr. Ubong Idemudo is a man of proven integrity, competence and uncommon compassion for the people. His track record in the private sector and his consistent support for youth empowerment and community development make him the right man to represent our federal constituency at this critical time,” IAFCLM stated.
The Movement lamented that despite its huge human and natural resources, the federal constituency comprising Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas has continued to suffer underdevelopment.
It stressed that the time has come for the people to reclaim their voice in the National Assembly through a capable representative.
“This is not just about INEC listing; it is about the liberation of our people. For too long, our federal constituency has been denied quality representation that can attract employment opportunities, federal projects, educational support and infrastructure. We believe Engr. Idemudo represents a new dawn,” the group maintained.
The group further decried the marginalization of the constituency in national discourse due to ineffective representation.
“We have watched with disappointment how our federal constituency has been relegated in national discourse due to ineffective representation. The inclusion of Engr. Idemudo on the INEC final list gives us hope that change is coming and it signals the beginning of the the new dawn,” the group added.
Expressing confidence in the NDC candidate’s acceptability, the Movement said his candidacy would resonate with youths, women and professionals seeking a departure from the old order.
“Our movement is convinced that Engr. Ubong Idemudo will bring fresh ideas, energy and purposeful leadership to the House of Representatives. He is accessible, he listens, and he has a clear blueprint for empowering our people,” he said.
The Liberation Movement therefore called on all stakeholders to rally behind Idemudo ahead of the polls.
“We call on all sons and daughters of Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo, both at home and in the diaspora, to unite behind this liberation project. The journey to the National Assembly has just begun, and we must all be part of it,” he stated.
It assured that it would intensify grassroots mobilization through ward-to-ward sensitization to educate voters on the need to elect a competent representative.
“Our prayer is that God will grant him wisdom, strength and favour as he proceeds to the next phase of consultations and campaigns. Victory is certain when the people are ready for liberation,” the group concluded.
