Popular broadcast journalist and Chief Executive Officer of Bush House Nigeria, Akparawa Michael Bush, has formally entered the race for Akwa Ibom State governor under the Labour Party banner.
The announcement was confirmed by the newly elected LP State Chairman in Akwa Ibom, Mrs. Freena Akpanusong, during a briefing with journalists yesterday at the party’s State Headquarters at #40 Akwa Efak. She also emphasized that the party is contesting with victory as the goal.
According to the State Chairman, the Labour Party remains the strongest platform for candidates in the upcoming general elections, citing the backing of thousands of members from the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
“With the number of defectors we receive on daily basis, the Labour Party is growing everyday. It’s the party to beat in Akwa Ibom State”, Mrs Akpanusong was quoted to have said
She added that following the recently concluded Ward, Chapter, and State Congresses, as well as the successful National Convention, the new leadership at every level of the party nationwide is focused on repositioning it for comprehensive success at the polls.
“Everyone in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria is yearning for good governance and the Labour Party is here to provide that formidable alternative platform that would usher in good leadership for the people”, the State Chairman stressed.
Speaking on the party’s membership base and the lineup of aspirants, she said: “Labour Party is the party for the people; just like our slogan: the workers, mama, papa, pikin. Everyone is welcomed. In fact, it’s the biggest party in the country. If you take the statistics of all the workers in Nigeria, their children and so forth, you will agree with me that Labour Party is the biggest party in Nigeria.
As I speak, we have aspirants for governorship like Akparawa Michael Bush who has already bought his nomination form, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly elections here in Akwa Ibom state”.
“Don’t also forget that the Labour Party is a coalition on its own because the NLC, the TUC are all part of the Labour Party coalition. So, by the time you put all of them together, you can see that anybody that contests election in Akwa Ibom State on the platform of the Labour Party would surely win. So I’m inviting more people to be part of our big family”, the Labour Party State Chairman concluded.
