The governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Dave Umahi has advised the older generation of Nigerians to quit the stage, retire and give opportunities to their children.

Umahi, a presidential aspirant made this known during a program on Channels TV, Sunrise Daily monitored by DailyblastNG.

Umahi who was obviously dodging questions from his hosts also said Nigerians must find out what President Muhammadu Buhari has done so far in fighting corruption. He also praised Buhari’s courage and stated that the APC government is being badly demarketed by Nigerians.

He said;

“I think that at certain age, we should be making efforts to reconcile with God and be grateful to him for opportunities given to us. It is important to know that even if you are successful and your children are not successful, you are not successful. Nobody goes to the grave with this money. It is your legacies that will speak for you, speak for your children and for your generation. Everything is not about money and every position given to us as leaders, God will demand for accountability. What I mean is that in this country there is no age limit for retirement. We tend to be pursuing money till the end of our stay on earth. Generally at a certain age, you need to retire and give opportunities to your children. It cuts across all spheres of life. The seed of corruption has been sown in this country and it is growing. We should not hold Buhari accountable. Before Mr President came to power, there was corruption and insecurity. We must find out what he has done in fighting these evil seeds. I think he has done appreciably well.”

On what he intends to do differently if elected president, Umahi said:

“The society believes that every leader in Nigeria is a thief. I will strenghten our weak institutions and engage everybody to kill corruption and secure the future of our children. Things will begin to move forward for us. All the insitutions of government must do self assessment so we can begin to rebuild this nation. I will continue where Buhari stopped”
