A tragic incident in Isara, Ogun State, has left a community in shock after a teenager, Olamide Phillips, allegedly stabbed his friend, Moses Odeh, to death during a heated altercation.

It was gathered that the incident, which occurred on Monday, saw the suspect fleeing the scene but he was later apprehended in a neighbouring community.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the suspect and the victim, both teenagers, were close friends whose families lived in the same compound.

The police spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the fight erupted following a disagreement between the two boys.

The statement disclosed that the immediate cause of the altercation remains unclear, but tensions escalated after Odeh walked in on his father, Otsapa, scolding Phillips.

Earlier, Phillips’ mother had accused her son of stealing N5000 from her bank account and reportedly informed Odeh’s father about the incident.

“Despite efforts by their parents to intervene and separate the two, Phillips allegedly grabbed a sharp object and stabbed Odeh in the stomach,” Odutola said.

The victim was rushed to Kings Hospital, a local medical facility in the community, but succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

However, his body has since been taken to the General Hospital in Isara for an autopsy.

“Following the incident, Phillips fled to Ipara Remo, a neighbouring community, but was apprehended by officers from the Isara Division after a manhunt.

“He is currently in police custody and is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for further investigation,” she added.
