The visit, part of LASIEC’s statewide assessment tour, has raised concerns about the commission’s impartiality, particularly in areas where incumbent chairmen are dominant.
Critics argue that LASIEC’s tour may be seen as an attempt to sway the outcome of the forthcoming local government elections rather than ensuring a free and fair process. The fact that the visit was hosted by the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, has further fueled these concerns.
Lagos citizens are calling for transparency and accountability in the electoral process, ensuring that LASIEC maintains its independence and impartiality. The commission must demonstrate its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections rather than being perceived as biased towards incumbent chairmen.
