Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Iyom Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has switched on her charm offensive and taken on the responsibility of addressing the Ghana-Nigeria crisis. She successfully managed to de-escalate the rising tensions, which had escalated to ‘Nigeria-Must-Go’ demonstrations in Ghana, primarily aimed at the Igbo community.
In her statement, she wrote:
“During our intervention mediation efforts in Ghana we had a series of meetings with Traditional rulers, community leaders, the Nigerian Community in Ghana from the different regions, and several stakeholders, including those involved in the crisis with a view to finding solutions and building a more harmonious relationship between our Nationals and their hosts.
Our appreciation also goes to the Ghanaian traditional institutions for their critical role in helping douse the tensions , notably the Ashanti King, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu11, Community leaders such as the Borgu wolomo and many other stakeholders too numerous to mention”.
