Rivers State governor, Mr Nyesom Wike has accused the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu of corruption.
Wike disclosed this during the PDP governorship campaign flag off at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Portharcourt alongside the G-5 governors which includes Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
The five aggrieved governors donned black trousers, black hats, and white Etibor outfits synonymous with the Niger Delta region. Members of the party also filled the stadium to the brim with PDP paraphernalia.
The G5 has been consistent in its demand that Benue-born Iyorchia Ayu step down as PDP national chairman for “fairness and justice”, saying northerners should be the party’s chair and presidential candidate.
Both Ayu and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (from Adamawa State) were conspicuously absent at the campaign flag-off.
Taking a swipe at Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of PDP, Wike assured Rivers State people that he will not support anybody who says that no other person from any ethnic group can be president .
He challenged Iyorchia Ayu to sue him if his allegations against him are unfounded.
Wike said,
“I challenge Ayu, Ayu is corrupt, Ayu you are corrupt. Ayu cannot lead us to a campaign. Ayu is corrupt. You collected One billion, hundred million and all the monies realized from PDP primaries. You are building a university in Benue State without staying up to one year in office. If anybody feels hurt, let him go to court and challenge me. Rivers people are hurt. Are you not angry? “
