The recent New Year endorsement of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi by former president Olusegun Obasanjo has been generating controversies from both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Director of Media & Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, the APC PCC said though it respects the right of Mr Obasanjo to support and endorse any candidate of his choice in any election, his endorsement of Mr Obi is worthless.
“We make bold to say that our party and candidate, Asíwájú Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not lose sleep over Obasanjo’s move, as Obasanjo is notorious for always opposing progressive political forces, as he did against MKO Abiola in 1993. The endorsement is actually worthless because the former President does not possess any political goodwill or leverage anywhere in Nigeria to make anyone win a Councillorship election let alone win a Presidential election. He is a political paperweight,” Mr Onanuga said.
Despite the fact that the APC has criticized the endorsement as ‘worthless’, a video of Buhari acknowledging the importance of Obasanjo’s endorsement in 2015 has surfaced on social media.
In the video clip, CNN presenter, Christine Amanpour sought Buhari’s reaction to Obasanjo’s massive endorsement and what it will do for his campaign during an interview.
He said:
“Well, it will certainly bring lots of voters to us and more confidence for those who are sitting on the fence becasue General Obasanjo is highly respected. As far as the Nigerian nation is concerned, there is no serious issue that can be discussed without people seeking for his opinion and listening to it.
