The management of Edo University, Uzairue, has launched a mandatory one-year industrial training for students in the departments of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering to enable them to acquire technical skills in the conversion of fuel vehicles to gas.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dawood Egbefo who disclosed this during the flag-off of the initiative on Saturday, said the move was geared towards reducing the burden of the high cost of fuel, increased access to affordable transportation, job creation and economic growth.

Egbefo also stated that it would reduce carbon emissions, and alleviate poverty, which according to him, aligns with the vision of the visitor to the University and Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

He noted that the development was in partnership with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy.

The VC said, “The school has launched a mandatory one-year industrial training for our students in the departments of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering to enable them to acquire technical skills in the conversion of fuel vehicles to gas.

“These developments are in partnership with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy.

“We are confident that this strategic partnership will yield lasting benefits for our communities, and the nation, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

“The initiative demonstrates the university’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and collaboration with government and industry partners.”

Similarly, Egbefon said this and many more innovations the varsity offers, saying that this is why Edo University is the best destination for students striving for academic excellence.

“We don’t go on strike. The university is open to everyone for academic pursuits. Our needs and expectations are met before we request,” he added.
