“Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has created a new reality. German military must be strong in development and more must be done to protect German energy supply. Our message is clear. We will not leave our people alone. This watershed impacts all of Europe. Germany and other EU country will stand in solidarity with Ukraine. It is important to keep the communication channels open. We are for peace in Europe. We are open to talks with Putin. Putin must not underestimate NATO’s resolve. This is Putin’s war, not the Russian peoples. Human rights will prevail in Russia. We will defend a free Europe. We are accepting the challenges in a unified manner” Scholz said in his speech which was received with a standing ovation by the parliament.
